The Colerie of the New Imperium
A faction of dragons from the old world far to the east, known as the Eastern Reach. Colloquially known as either the Colerie or the New Imperium, these dragons are said to be descendants of a very small population of hybrid dragons. Old legends talk about the first ‘impure blood’ hybrids of a Great Uprising under a Royal Caste thousands of millennia ago, where a Courtesan Caste miraculously reversed their sterilization and sought to both out-breed the Royals and muddy their bloodlines until they were unrecognizable. The Courtesan Caste was eventually overpowered and exiled by the Royal Caste, though the damage to the ancient society had been done, and it withered until it finally collapsed and was claimed by antiquity.
To the untrained eye, modern dragons of the New Imperium bear a striking resemblance to that of Travelers. Travelers and Imperial dragons both agree that the New Imperium dragons' scales tend to feature gold and yellow tones far more prominently, and dragons of the New Imperium are far less often furred or feathered than the Travelers. Colerie dragons also bear a more intricate and purposeful patterning within their scales and wing-sails; understood to be the fruits of thousands of generations of selective breeding by way of their culture's preference for intricate markings and rich colors. Additionally, unlike Travelers' close symbiosis with kobolds, the dragons of the New Imperium do not share the natural symbiotic link with kobolds, and rely on members of the Lesser Tribes or other dragons to act as their servants. Within the Eastern Reach, kobolds are generally regarded as pests who are impossible to tame, and too dangerous to be allowed to make a foothold near more ‘civilized’ places.
